Kaftans

Who doesn’t love a kaftan? When I eventually achieve my dream of emigrating to Sydney (Australia) I’m going to live in kaftans – even in winter – probably over jeans – but nevertheless that’s what I’m going to wear.

It’s no surprise that Camilla Franks, the Australian woman behind the brand hails from Sydney (you cannot fail to be inspired by the city, in my opinion the best place on the planet).

Her riotous prints and use of colour are quite breath-taking, and the fact that they can be twisted and tied in all different ways to make a completely different outfit each time you wear one makes them quite unique.

My only gripe is that they cost twice as much to buy in the UK as they do in Australia, Camilla.com.au doesn’t ship to the UK (at present) and you can only purchase a fraction of the collection through online retailers such as Net-a-Porter.com, Selfridges.com and Matchesfashion.com. I’m sure there are a few independent stockists in the UK but none that are easily accessible to me.

Fortunately, I try to get to Sydney every few years (the cost of the flight pays for itself in terms of the saving on the clothes!). When I get there the first thing I do is go to David Jones, or the pop up shop in the QVB (if it’s there) and stock up.

They’re still pricey (particularly with the recent drop in the £) but it’s worth it as they are timeless from a fashion perspective and because they are generally loose-fit it’s not going to matter if you gain a few pounds over the years. In addition you can wear them at any age!

Here’s a selection of a few of the beautiful pieces that I own.

I really, really like Camilla !

And on my wish list for 2017 are these (chosen from UK only suppliers unfortunately).

Do they need accessories? In my opinion not really, the pieces speak for themselves, although the lovely girls at Camilla would probably disagree. Me, I’d just pop on a pair of Ancient Greek sandals and I’m good to go.
